Propers for the Seventh Sunday after Trinity.
The Book of Common Prayer 1928.
The Collect.
LORD of all power and might, who art the author and giver of all good things; Graft in our hearts the love of thy Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Epistle. Romans vi. 19.
I SPEAK after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Gospel. St. Mark viii. 1.
IN those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them, I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: and if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people. And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

Watch this Sunday’s live-stream!
The upcoming YouTube live-stream will always be found at “Watch this Sunday’s live-stream,” accessible from the menu bar at the top of the website home page. If we are not doing a live-stream for any reason, there will be a link to a past Sunday service to aid in your worship if you aren’t able to be with us in person.
If a live-stream of a Sunday service is accomplished, the audio of that Sunday’s sermon will usually be posted sometime Sunday evening on the media page on our website.
Our website is found at cca-nc.org. It’s our “one-stop shop” for information about Christ Church Anglican.
On any given day, check our “Current operating status” – in other words, whether or not the church is open for services or office hours, in case of inclement weather or unusual episodes (like the sabotage of transformers a few years ago). Check for changes to the service schedule (to include seasonal services such as Holy Week and Christmas) at Services and Office Hours.
The weekly parish email is reproduced on the blog page.
And lastly…if you ever want to ask a question, make a comment, contact someone about a ministry opportunity…please drop us a line using our church contact page. We’ll get your question or concern directed to the right person.

Announcements for the Week of Sunday, August 3rd, 2025
If you are visiting us: Welcome to Christ Church Anglican, Southern Pines! Thank you for being with us. We are very pleased to have you join us for the service, and hope that your worship here is a blessing to you. Please sign the guest book on the table in the narthex, and if you wish, share your email or other contact information with us. And may God bless you!
Midweek (Wednesday) Eucharist: We offer a service of Holy Communion – also known as the Holy Eucharist, the Lord’s Supper, or the Mass) at 10:00 on Wednesday mornings. Please note that this service includes an opportunity for the laying on of hands and anointing with oil for healing, for those who may desire this ministry. The Propers and Homily for the Wednesday service typically commemorate a saint whose day falls in that week.
Ordo Kalendars: It’s that time of the year again! Time to order your Ordo Kalendar, so you can keep track of liturgical seasons, feasts and fasts, and holy days. The price is $10.00 each, and there are two options now: the Original Ordo Kalendar – a full-size (8″ x 13¾”), full-color wall calendar; or the Pocket Ordo Kalendar: a 3¾” x 6″ black and white calendar. Checks should be made out to Christ Church Anglican, and given to Sandy Parsons to process your order. Thank you very much!
Sandhills Student Assistance: Our parish continues to support Sandhills Student Assistance, also known as the “Matthew 25:40 Project.” Fr. Tom sits on the Board of the SSA, which provides focused, immediate assistance to disadvantaged and at-risk students in Moore County. At our Vestry meeting last Saturday, we identified a desire for Christ Church to become more active in supporting this excellent local organization.
While Sandhills Student Assistance has provided various types of aid to students and their families, including hygiene packs, school supplies, and even clothes and shoes, the primary focus is on providing food to students who may not be eating well (or at all) at home, to enable them to have the mental acuity and attentiveness to continue learning effectively. Currently on the list of requested donations are following individually-packaged food items, which can be placed in the wicker box in our social hall:
- Breakfast bars
- Pastry crisps
- Cracker packs
- Capri Sun juice packs
- Protein bars
- Microwaveable noodle bowls
- Trail mix
Sandhills Student Assistance provides approximately 175 shelf-stable food items for hungry students each school day, across Moore County. Please note that the actual need of these students is vetted by their school guidance counselors and social workers, not by Sandhills Student Assistance: we only get asked when there is a genuine, determined need.
Altar Guild: The Altar Guild is a lay ministry with a vocation to serve God in His house by preparing the Sanctuary for worship, maintaining and caring for the sacred vessels, altar linens, and vestments, and related duties as needed. Serving on the Altar Guild is a form of religious vocation, and a sacred responsibility. If you feel called to this mission and ministry within Christ Church Anglican, please contact Sandy Parsons via our church contact page.
Altar Flowers: We will be taking a break from flowers for at least the remainder of the summer, and possibly Trinitytide season; however, if anyone wishes to donate altar flowers to the glory of God or in honour or memory of a loved one, please contact Fr. Tom, Amanda, or Austin.
